McCain’s $300 million “Prize”

In a speech today at Fresno State University in California, the Republican presidential candidate outlined his proposal for a $300 million prize for new technology that would be 30% cheaper than current batteries and have “the size, capacity, cost and power to leapfrog the commercially available plug-in hybrids or electric cars.” He did not offer any technical specifics! I guess if he could have, we would not need a “prize”. I like the concept, but we need to pump more then $300 million into the search for alternate energy. I would like to see $100 Billion a year for the next 10 years.

McCain called the taxpayer-funded prize — $1 for every man, woman and child — “a small price to pay for helping to break the back of our oil dependency.” If $1 is cheap, why not $333 a year? Maybe then we can make a real difference.

68 Million Acres

So, the Dems would have you believe that the oil companies are sitting on land, hording all the oil. Well, you know why they are not producing oil from those 68 million acres? Because there is NO oil on that land! Oil companies lease the land, in hopes that when they do geological studies and drill exploratory wells, that they may find oil. If they do, great they pump it out if they can do so profitably. If they don’t find oil, they let the leases expire, which they do within 5-10 years.

The Democrats are using this issue as a smoke screen. Instead of focusing on the real issue, they are playing games with the future of our country.

What car manufacturers try to cover up

One of the interesting aspects of the Internet is the ability for car enthusiasts to share information about their vehicles.   I am always amazed how many people have similar issues with their car, however when discussing with a dealer, the dealer acts as if no one else has an issue.

Recently the folks on LotusTalk.com have identified a potentially serious issue with the overhead oil feeds in the camshaft cover.  This is believed to be causing a failure of the camshaft, which ultimately results in a broken rocker arm.  Multiple people have now confirmed that their car also shows evidence of a problem.  So far, Lotus, and Toyota who manufacturer the 2ZZ-GE engine are silent….  You can read more here.
