Toyota SDK8

I have a 1984 Toyota SDK8 that I bought a number of years ago.  It is a great skid loader, but because they are no longer imported into the US, it is a real pain to find any info.  I am going to start posting all of the information I have about it on this page, hopefully some other folks will add any information that they may have.  Right now I am focused on getting the starter turning over reliably, it usually only turns over about once every four or five tries.

My bucket attachment is also all mangled up, I am curious if anyone has replaced their’s with a BobCat Quick Tach attachment plate?

Repair manual which covers the inspection, adjustment and repair procedures for the overhaul of the engine, chassis and materials handling system of the Toyota Skid Steer Loader 2SGK6, 2SDK6, 2SDK7, and 2SDK8.

Fuel Filter Napa 3386

Oil Filter Napa 1521
Hydraulic Napa 51551

Fan Belt Mitsubishi 99523-11 52

Motor for SDK8 is a Toyota 2J diesel. Diesel Forklift truck CPCD80-2,80-2J,TOYOTA 2J ENGIN D B 4CY, 2.5 LTR

Go here to find some mini-skid steers.

Hi, Thanks for the pictures of your SDK8. I just bought one.
I have 2 problems that you might have encountered. First is I cannot get it to stay running. It will start and then dies right away. None of the lights light up on the dash so i assuming it is just a wiring problem. What engine is this?
    Second
My pedals are stuck and only work together. The bucket will not go back up.
    Thanks for any ideas.

    I have two ideas.

    1) The engine is a Toyota 2J. There is a EDIC control unit that moves the fuel control from off, on, and start. It moves the fuel off when it senses a loss in oil pressure. It seems as if many folks disconnect the EDIC, and operate the fuel control manually with a cable into the cab. That is the way mine is setup. You could test this pretty easily. It could also not be seeing oil pressure, that will also cause the EDIC to shut off fuel.

    2) There is a safety interlock for the pedals, it sounds like it MAY be sticking on yours. Look for a rod that locks the pedals and the solenoid that controls it. Again, many people have hot wired this solenoid.

    Where are you located?

James, have you gotten anywhere with your motor seal? I think my SDK8 has a blown seal too on the left motor.. my left drive is choppy also, only does about half the speed of the right, suspect that is signs of bigger problems..

Mine does this on the left, and leaks a bucket load of hydraulic fluid between the frame and the motor mount… I bet the motor seal is blown in mine.. If you are not loosing oil, then perhaps you may try bleeding the air from the hydraulics… service manual has a section on this
